International Studies Preparatory Academy (ISPA)

MIAMI’S PREMIER LANGUAGE HIGH SCHOOL

International Studies Preparatory Academy (ISPA) is a language magnet public high school serving students from grades 9 through 12. ISPA is recognized as a Magnet Certified School and Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America. ISPA is consistently ranked as a top 20 high school in Florida by US News and World Reports. Since its inception in 2010, ISPA has always been an “A” rated school by the Florida Department of Education. 

ISPA’s academic language programs are a result of the collaboration between Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and the Ministries of Education of Spain, France, and Italy. Students pursue world language studies in addition to an academic curriculum with an international focus that addresses the most rigorous standards of both U.S. and European Union (EU) educational systems. Students are taught literature, history and geography in the target language of their program. Simultaneously they are also taught high level courses in Honors, AP and Dual Enrollment in English. ISPA is also an AP Capstone Diploma School. 

CURRICULUM / PROGRAMS

Our students pursue one of the following five programs: 

-International Studies (IS) in French, Italian or Spanish for students who are proficient in the language. A language proficiency exam is required to access the IS programs. 

-International Education (IE) in French and Italian. These two programs are for beginners in French and Italian. No exam required. 

ISPA’s French Curriculum is LabelFranEducation certified. 

INTERNATIONAL EQUIVALENCIES

•IS Spanish program students qualify for the national diploma of Spain, Spanish Bachiller Diploma.
•IS and IE Italian students who pass the AP Italian exam and 3 out of 4 other AP exams will be allowed to enroll in any Italian university of their choice.
•IS French students wishing to study at a French university must hold a high school diploma and pass the DELF B2 exam.

SCHEDULE

School starts at 7:20 am and ends at 2:20 pm. 

FACULTY

American subjects are taught by American teachers who have been certified by the State of Florida.  Language program subjects are taught by French, Italian or Spanish teachers who can be categorized as shown below:

  • Teachers certified by the French, Italian or Spanish Ministry of Education and hired locally by the school. Certified by both the State of Florida and France,Italy or Spain, they have also been trained to teach in an international environment.

  • Local teachers. Teachers who have been hired by the school and have a French, Italian or Spanish diploma in their field but are not certified by the respective country’s Ministry of Education.
